I was completely lost at sea until this change started to make things feel possible…

I read a lot of articles written by people talking about how they got out of a rut, looking back from a position of success, explaining how they got there, giving you advice on how ‘you can do it too’ etc. I read these for the reason most people do, because I’m dissatisfied with my life, and I want to make changes.

Many are fantastic, there’s no denying that it can be inspiring to read someone else’s journey when you’re having a good day. It can fill you with belief that you, too, really can do that. But on a bad, or even just average, day - at the peak of procrastinationary purgatory - reading these stories can give all sorts of fuel to the anxious parts of your brain. You sit and pick out the steps they took that already seem like a mountain to you, you find reasons why it would ‘never work in my case’, and convince yourself that they clearly have something you don’t.

If any of that sounds familiar, then oh boy, do I feel you.

I had the journals, I had the to-do lists, the intentions, the goals. I was trying so hard. But for whatever reason I couldn’t make anything stick.
